The name of the phone came from the brightest star of the Virgo constellation which is Spica. The device was released autumn of 2009 and was upgraded to Android 2.1 in February of this year. The design of the Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700’s designed is generally patterned after the Galaxy i7500 although the latter looks more vibrant and youthful. The handset comes in two colors: black with red and white with green. The size of the phone is 115x 13.2 mm with a weight that measures up to 124g.

The display is also equipped with an accelerometer for that automatic rotate when the phone is shifted from one mode to another. It also features the wi-fi capacity as well as a GPS receiver with HSDPA, Bluetooth and micro USB v2.0. The Galaxy Spica i5700 is also equipped with a camera with 3.2 megapixels capacity and a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The camera has a LED flash, auto focus and geo tagging to make picture taking easy. It also has a camcorder. Other media features of other Samsung phones are also present in this phone such as audio and video player.

It could support WMA, MP3, e-AAC+ and RA music files. The video files supported are WMV, MP4, H.263 and H.264. Like every phone the messaging service is presented with text and multimedia messaging as well as e-mailing and instant messaging. The phone’s internal memory is 180 MB but with a micro SD card, one could expand the memory up to 32 G.
